Meal #1 9:30am
two scrambled eggs (plus an extra white from mayo leftovers)
sauteed peppers, onions, carrots and asparagus
3/4 chicken sausage link
orange juice
Comments:
I always like asparagus when it's in my meal at a restaurant, but I never think to use it other than steaming it. Asparagus is one of those low GI foods. I bought a bunch of vegetables yesterday and I'm excited to start playing around with them.
The sausage was good, but not great. I don't think I'm a good judge of sausage. I much prefer bacon, although it's been fun trying new foods.
Meal #2 3pm
Romaine with peppers, cucumbers and apples
3 slices of bacon and bacon fat dressing
Comments:
On my quest to eat more vegetables, I've decided to eat more salad. I used to eat salad all the time. I think I stopped because of the whole oxalate thing. This will be a good way to add something new to my menu and curtail the fruits and nuts.
I was really hungry when I got finished with my 2 hour walk today, but then I got sidetracked looking up recipes for ground lamb and I didn't even notice that hours had gone by. I think my energy is starting to come back.
Meal #3 5:45pm
lamb kabob things with peppers, onions and mushrooms
Comments:
They were not real kabobs, but it was all the same ingredients. I'll post the recipe tomorrow. Dinner was good. I hadn't had lamb before. I still prefer beef, but it was nice to mix it up. I might try this again sometime with ground beef.
The vegetables were cooked perfectly.
Snack #1 7:30pm
1/2 apple with almond butter
Comments:
I can give up nuts during the day if need be, but I still really love almond butter.
Meal #4 8:30pm
plain browned ground beef
cucumber, pepper and avocado slices and asparagus spears
Comments:
I intended on just eating some vegetables, but then I realized I should have some fat. Then I decided it would be a good idea to have some protein too. The vegetable snack became an actual meal, which I only ended up eating some of. There were two pepper/avocado slices and one asparagus spear left over.
Chocolate 10pm
one square Chuao Spicy Maya
two squares Green & Blacks 70% cocoa
*no picture*
Comments:
I was curious to see how the spicy stuff tasted and I read on MarksDailyApple today that he recommends Green&Blacks for chocolate, so I picked up some of that too. It was surprisingly good. I know this kind of chocolate has actual health benefits as opposed to the milk chocolate stuff. I don't feel bad eating it, but even still it will very much be in moderation.
EotD Comments:
I realized two important things yesterday. One is that my energy level has steeply declined in the last few days. I know I was running myself ragged this past weekend because of the garage sale, but even still, it should have been something I could handle. I know that after the long days, I ended up forfeiting exercise, which was a mistake and only exacerbated the problem. Another mistake is that, at the most important time, when I could have actually used the good energy, I started fueling my body with crap food.
The last couple days I've been sleeping far too much at night and still waking up exhausted or having overslept. In a couple days, my body should hopefully re-acclimate and I should feel back to normal.
I'm hoping the same thing happens with the second thing I realized yesterday, which is that I've been horribly short-tempered. I've found myself yelling more recently, or feeling the need to raise my voice instead of talking it out. I had prided myself on my ability to be calm recently, and the past few days I've found myself more and more disappointed in my actions and seemingly unable to look for a better outlet for my attitude.
Something else I've noticed is the way I heal now. I burned myself last week and it looked far worse than it ever felt. The first couple days actually it didn't hurt at all. Then by the time it did hurt, it was odd to me that I started to notice it. Interestingly, the same thing happened as my tattoo was healing. It may be neither here nor there, but it's something to note for now.
